New Students

Here are a few tips to help you prepare:

Get ready to change your life! When you begin your Bikram yoga practice, you are committing to taking care of yourself. You are in charge of your body, your mind, your life!

No prior reservation is required for any class. However, as a first-timer, please be sure to arrive at the studio 20 minutes before class time. This allows time for registration and for us to answer any questions you may have, as well as for you to have a stress-free start. For your own well-being, we cannot allow new students to enter any class late under any circumstances.

Please come to any class that works for your schedule. All Bikram Yoga classes are designed for beginners.

Drink plenty of water throughout the day so that you're well-hydrated before coming to class. Good hydration supports the healthy function of all of your body's systems, and this will help you enjoy your first class more.
Avoid eating a large meal for 2 or 3 hours before class. At the same time, be sure to eat something, especially if you are coming in the evening. You need your strength! A good before-class snack might be an apple, toast, or some other simple, plain energy source.
Wear something you will be comfortable sweating in and that you will be able to see your body working in. Running or biking shorts work well, and women should wear a sports bra or tank top. Do avoid pants, as they prohibit you from being able to see your muscles working. Please do be sure your clothes will stay in place to keep you covered as you stretch--no bikinis or baggy shorts, and be careful with white!
You will need a yoga mat, large bath/beach towel to go on your mat, and plenty of water. We have all these items for rent or sale at the studio if you don't have your own.
We do have showers for after class, so bring an extra towel to dry off with.
As with any time you try something new, it's normal to feel nervous. Please don't be scared! As Bikram always says, it's never too late, you're never too old, you're never to sick to start from scratch again. Everyone can do Bikram Yoga, from the biggest couch potato to the most accomplished professional athlete.
A lot of people say, "I can't do yoga--I'm not flexible." or, "I need to get in better shape before I go to that hot yoga." Don't be silly! That's like saying, "I have to get rid of this pneumonia before I go to the doctor." The yoga is therapy--no matter your condition, come try every posture to the best of your ability, and you will see the benefits!
Your first day, don't put any pressure on yourself--today is like orientation. Again, the best part of yoga is that you don't have to be good at it to get the benefits. Do the best you can, and your body gets what it needs. The idea is not to get good at yoga--it's to use the yoga to get your body, mind, and spirit healthy and happy!
Do take it slow your first day--take breaks, watch your fellow yogis--you will see all different levels in every class, so you can see how you can progress in a few weeks, months, and years.

Come back to class as soon as possible--the next day is best. This way, you quickly see the cumulative benefits of the yoga. Take advantage of our Introductory Week--come every day if you can! This way, you don't have to trust us to tell you how much the yoga can do for you--you will see for yourself!
